Australia’s legal industry is entering a new evolution of legal technology across law firms, and a major new report has revealed the platforms who are leading this charge. The inaugural 2025 Legal Tech Review by market research firm Agile Market Intelligence has captured the voices of more than 1,200 legal professionals across private practice and in-house counsel, offering the most comprehensive look into how lawyers are using and rating the legal technology that powers their daily work.
Agile Market Intelligence director Michael Johnson said the results highlight the need for tech providers to focus on their service to customers. In a world that’s now saturated by AI, the relationship between a firm and their tech platform is shaped by customer experience.
“Competitive features still matter, but we’re seeing lawyers place greater value on reliability, clarity and ongoing support,” he explained.
“The market leaders are those that deliver a well-rounded proposition with powerful products backed by exceptional user experience.”
The findings are the first of their kind. It revealed how Australian law firms and legal teams are investing in more advanced legal technology not only to cut unnecessary costs but to gain time, the profession’s most precious commodity.
The report highlighted more than half (58%) of firms are planning to increase their legal tech investment in the next 12 months, which is no surprise with the rise in adoption of AI across the sector and the rapid growth in tech efficiency.
The fact that law firms are increasing their spend in legal technology is not the key takeaway however, the real headline is how firms are making decisions on the legal tech that is right for them. With almost 6 out of 10 law firms (58%) discovering their new legal tech solution from peer recommendations, it’s no surprise there is a growing influence in the importance of tech providers delivering exceptional service, while doing what they can to be front of mind to their customers.
The report highlights peer recommendations as the number one method for discovering new legal tech among firms and so to stay ahead, providers must monitor their customer loyalty and react to their evolving needs. Net Promoter Score (NPS) is the best metric to gauge just that.
NPS is calculated by subtracting the percentage of detractors from promoters, based on the responses to the question "On a scale of 1 to 10, how likely is it that you would recommend [legal tech platform] to a friend or colleague?". A positive NPS signals high customer loyalty and reflects how likely users are to recommend the platform.
User experience emerged as the single strongest driver of customer loyalty across each of the categories tested, surprisingly outperforming value for money or innovation. It’s been revealed that platforms who combine intuitive design, smooth implementation and reliable support are the ones lawyers are most likely to recommend.
Meet the Market Leaders
The report recognises the Market Leaders of legal technology, identified as those with positive Net Promoter Scores, meaning their users are more likely to recommend them than not.
In today’s competitive marketplace, the most successful platforms are those who are rated most highly by their customers. It’s for this reason that these platforms have been identified as Market Leaders, as they have not only won adoption, they have inspired advocacy through their delivery, demonstrating that legal technology is not just about functionality but about creating a genuine difference in the firm.

The message is clear, user experience is king and those leading the charge for 2025 are those who combine this with powerful tech capabilities, a smooth implementation and strong customer service.
For law firms deciding where to invest next, the 2025 Legal Tech Review is more than a report, it is a roadmap to the future of legal practice.
