Xero leads customer satisfaction rankings in Australian accounting tech market

2025 Accounting Tech Review results reveal which accounting tech platforms have the most satisfied customers. The Top 10 platforms with the highest Net Promoter Scores (NPS) are led by the general ledger & ERP platform Xero, the data capture and automation platform Annature, and the compliance, research and audit platform Knowledge Shop.

Agile Market Intelligence’s 2025 Accounting Tech Review is based on a survey of over 700 accountants and bookkeepers across Australia on their experiences across 41 different accounting and practice management platforms. We categorised platforms into five solution categories: General ledger & ERP, Data capture & automation, Compliance, research & audit, Insights, reporting & client engagement, and Practice & firm management.

Key stats you need to know
  • Xero has the highest user advocacy with a Net Promoter Score (NPS) of +41, and is the only general ledger & ERP platform on the Top 10 list.

  • Annature with NPS +35 is joined by Content Snare (+21) are the highest-rated data capture and automation platforms.

  • Compliance, research & audit platform Knowledge Shop (+29) is third on the list, joined by ATOmate at fifth place with an NPS of +19.

  • The highest rated insights, reporting and client engagement platform is Ignition with NPS +18, while the most highly-rated practice and firm management platform is Karbon with NPS +13.

The 2025 Accounting Tech Review analysed responses from 736 accountants and bookkeepers across Australia, measuring platform satisfaction through Net Promoter Score (NPS), an industry-standard metric for gauging customer loyalty and advocacy. NPS is calculated based on responses to the question "On a scale of 1 to 10, how likely is it that you would recommend [accounting tech platform] to a friend or colleague?", providing a reliable indicator of genuine user satisfaction and platform performance.

Comprehensive platforms maintain strong user satisfaction despite broad scope

The Top 10 accounting tech platforms by Net Promoter Score shows that Xero commands the highest NPS among the 41 platforms included in the survey. Xero is the only general ledger & ERP platform making it to theTop 10, as well as the only platform on the list with a market share above 15%. With almost 9 in 10 accounting professionals surveyed using the platform, it shows that Xero’s near-ubiquitous adoption hasn’t compromised user satisfaction.

Practice & firm management platforms also demonstrate strong performance with Karbon (+13), AccountKit (+4), and ChangeGPS (+3) securing spots in the Top 10. Despite the comprehensive, all-encompassing nature of this category, these platforms successfully meet diverse user expectations across complex operational requirements.

Specialised platforms achieve high advocacy in focused niches

Australian data capture & automation platform Annature secures the second place with an NPS of +35, joined by Content Snare (+21). Platforms solving specific pain points around document processing and workflow automation are delivering clear value to accounting professionals, demonstrating strong market demand for targeted automation solutions.

Compliance, research & audit platforms in the Top 10 are Knowledge Shop (ranked 3rd with NPS +29) and ATOmate (+19). Despite smaller market shares, their solid net promoter scores suggest that focused solutions can achieve high user advocacy within their niches by deeply understanding specific professional workflows.

Ignition leads the insights, reporting & client engagement category with +18, joined by Dext with +7. These positive scores show that proposal automation, billing and other client engagement features deliver value to both accounting professionals and clients.

"The wide range in satisfaction scores across accounting technology categories reflects the diverse needs of modern accounting practices," said Michael Johnson, Director at Agile Market Intelligence. "While Xero's dominance in both market share and user advocacy is remarkable, the strong performance of specialized platforms demonstrates that accountants value solutions that solve specific workflow challenges effectively."
